I am really impressed with Stockholm. It's a beautiful city, or at least the central area is. And there is a surfeit of sights, both modern and historic. First comes breakfast and this hotel excels at that. There are too many choices! The hot food may be limited, but there are breads, cold cuts, fruit, cereals, yoghurt, juices and even pancakes and waffles to choose from. It's little wonder we skipped lunch today. Afterwards we strolled down to the Gamla Stan with its atmospheric narrow cobblestone streets, the Swedish Parliament building and the royal palace. Yes it's a bit touristy at times, but it's also magical and I feel like we don't spend enough time there. We do stop at the Nobel Museum. Alex gets into the kids activities, answering questions in return for a prize. A chocolate Nobel prize. We have a packed itinerary today. Flat packed and assembled with an Allen key. There are patches of snow on the ground that weren't there the previous evening. We are a bit sad to leave the Duxiana after the comfy beds and the breakfast of cold cuts, fruits and hot waffles. I tried the Swedish caviar on my boiled egg. It was... Interesting. I was very disappointed to realise that, after talking it up for months, I had forgotten the Disgusting Foods Museum in Malmö yesterday. Too late now. We catch another Oresundstag train, for a bit over an hour. Past yesterday's Lund, past increasingly white fields and towns to Älmhult, home of IKEA. The conductor warns us that the train will split in two so we have to move carriages forward. Unfortunately, there we no spare sets of chairs for all of us. Oh it is so good to stay somewhere nice when you really need a good sleep and a good sleep was had. We decide to extend our stay by a day. And that we before breakfast, a smorgasbord of deliciousness. Not the hot oily buffets of Australia and Western hotels in Asia, but a nice selection of cold cuts, jams, breads and fruit. Yes, there actually was egg and bacon, but the self made waffle was the best hot food. It's Sunday, so much is closed or open late. There is still much to see in the area. We hop aboard yet another Danish Oresundstag train to nearby Lund. The historic town is pretty quiet and it is raining. However, the Lund Domkyrka (cathedral) really is magnificent. But being Sunday it was closed to sightseers for a service, though the organ sounds truly magnificent. Cold and wet we return to Malmö and wander the squares and shopping streets. Most shops are closed so we can't get raincoats for B and Alex. We eat a big steak lunch at Mandos S...
